The Battle Creek City Commission approved a resolution at its regular meeting on May 2nd authorizing Schweitzer Incorporated to issue subcontracts and purchase orders totaling $12,457,868 of the overall anticipated project cost of $15.5 million.

“We as a department are excited about this opportunity and the successful completion of this once-in-a-lifetime project,” Police Chief Jim Blocker said in a staff memo.

Schweitzer was previously awarded the Phase 1 Preconstruction services contract in the amount of $764,500.

“The Design Build Team has been working in harmony with the City and Police Department staff for over two years in the development of this project. It is exciting to get to this stage,” said Tom Beuchler, President and CEO.

Schweitzer Project Manager Ryan Bays indicated that construction has begun.  The groundbreaking ceremony will be held at the site on June 1st at 10:00 AM. The public is welcome to attend.

The new facility is set to be completed in the summer of 2018.

Schweitzer holds the Design Build contract with the city and has subcontracted with Bloomfield Hills-based Redstone Architects.
