Schweitzer Inc. was awarded the Phase 1 Design Build Services Agreement for the new $14.4 million City of Battle Creek Police Department Headquarters.
The company will provide drawings, evaluate the budget and advise the city on site use and improvements.
The 46,758 square foot facility is scheduled to be designed and bid in February of 2017. Construction is slated to begin in the spring of 2017 and be completed in the summer of 2018.
The new facility will be located in the staff parking lot directly north of the existing headquarters. Upon completion and occupancy of the new facility, the existing will be demolished and the site will be transformed into parking and green spaces. A study by architects Dan Redstone and Randy Case “revealed that to renovate, update and expand the current facility would be costly and may not necessarily extend the useful facility life as long as necessary to justify the expense.”
The vision of the new facility is to be an environment that is welcoming to the entire community. Many collaborative spaces will be incorporated into the design to be shared with several other agencies related enhancing the services provided to the community.
Schweitzer has engaged Redstone Architects of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan as their design partner and Architect of Record for the project.
